ALL OF THE CATS ARE AIDS AND LEUKEMIA NEGATIVE. THEY HAVE BEEN VETTED TO THE DEGREE THEIR AGE ALLOWS.
The following abbreviations in the descriptions of the cats are as follows:
DSH = Domestic Short Hair; DMH = Domestic Medium Hair; DLH = Domestic Long Hair.
We ask for a $50 donation per cat when adopted. If the kittens are fully vetted, including spay or neuter, we ask for a $75 donation.
You may email your inquiry to our adoption coordinator Kimberly at KIMBERL3A@hotmail.com and/or submit an adoption application online -- just click on "Adoption App", fill out, and click "submit". She will get back to you as soon as she possibly can.
HALO was born in August of 2002. She is shy but gets along well with the other cats. She is a DSH all grey except for a white spot on her chest, with double front paws.
ISIS is a classically beautiful brown DSH female tabby, born in April of 2003. She is skittish, but allows us to pet her just a little, preferably on her head. With time, in a home of her own, maybe she could relax and learn to trust completely.
GLENNIE is a DSH Grey and white female born in 2005. She was rescued on December 11, 2005 from a rough outside life, with Yeller. She has learned to trust us now , and has learned that a headrub is a good thing, and will even butt you for one now !! She still doesn't like to be picked up, but loves to be petted, and loves our outdoor porch.
EDDIE was an adult stray when he came to us. He was probably born in 2004. He is shy and slowly learning to trust us, but gets along well with the other cats. He looks pretty relaxed in the photo on the right, though ! He recently ( Spring 2009 ) has decided that he likes to be pet, and we are giving him all the attention we can.
MIKA (pronounced "Meeka" ) is a roly-poly little sweetheart born in July of 1995. She had lived in a one-pet home, and her owner was heartbroken to have to give her up. Mika had trouble adjusting to being in the main room with all the other cats, and would much prefer a quieter home -- having 40-something roommates stressed her out very much. She needs a quiet one-cat home, no dogs.
Since early May 2006, Mika has been staying in our office and is getting along fine. She will let you pet her and loves all the extra treats she gets from MaryLou.
YELLER is a young DSH yellow tabby rescued from the streets of Mystic, and is probably Glennie's brother. He's still shy with people but gets along fine with other cats. We think he was born in May 2005.
With your new pet, you will receive a free 4 LB bag of Hill's Science Diet food and information about how to sign up for SHELTERCARE PET INSURANCE, only $1 for the first month for cats up to 6 years of age.
TIMMY was born in 2003. He was rescued from death row in a New Jersey shelter in October 2004. He's never had a real home of his own. He's learned to enjoy uncaged life with other cats, but is still very shy with people.
BELOW ARE OUR KITTENS ( UP TO ONE YEAR OF AGE ) They are in Foster homes so please submit an application and we will call you and set up an appointment with the Foster mother.

RAJA is a female DSH brown tabby born in approx 2003. She is quiet and shy and keeps to herself. She had a real home once -- who knows how she could blossom if she had one again.
KALI is a pretty DSH dilute calico born in 2003. She has spent most of her life in shelters. She's learned to trust people and is accepting of the attention and pets of our volunteers.
LAILA was born in January 2004. She was rescued from death row in another shelter. She is DSH, white with grey tabby. She is quiet but friendly, but lets you know when she's had enough pets with a gentle swat.
MIDNIGHT FIRE is a DSH female. She also was rescued from another shelter where she was in line to be euthanized, simply because they'd run out of space. She's become very affectionate with people -- not so great with other cats. If she has a cubby to feel safe and alone in, she does fine. 40 - 50 roommates is a little much for her. Her birthdate is estimated to be in 2001.
Poor MIMI's owner passed away and she was given up to another shelter, where her time was running out. Her housemate was adopted, and Mimi came to us. She deserves a home too. She is DSH black with a little white at her throat, born in 2003.
VIVIAN and VELVET were born to a stray in June 2006 at the Plainfield dog track. They are still a bit shy but came a long way in their foster home. Now they are at Kitty Harbor. Given time to adjust to a new home, they could become great pets for the patient and understanding adopter, willing to give them their space for awhile. Velvet will come right up to you meowing for your attention, and we hope it's just a matter of time before he'll let you pet him.
Sisters DAMARIS and FELICITY and several others were rescued from a horribly overcrowded indoor situation, where vet care was never given. They each had litters of kittens, now all adopted. The girls are now spayed and up to date on their shots, as all our cats are. They were probably born in October 2006.
None of our cats have been declawed, unless they had been declawed by a previous owner. Please go to catscratching.com to learn more about this procedure.
Please ask us to show you how to trim their claws yourself.

They are pettable, but a bit skittish and don't like to be picked up. We hope that with the continued attention of our volunteers they will relax, and find homes where they can feel safe. A patient adopter who is willing to give them time is a must.

TOBY was born probably in 2005 or 2006. He was already neutered when he showed up and hung around in a backyard in Canterbury for several weeks -- so he was someone's pet once. He was friendlier when he came in -- being with so many other cats seems to have made him more cautious and skittish. He has beautiful coloring -- his golden brown coat has some mackerel swirls in it.
Adults -- over one year of age
TAYLOR and TRAVIS were rescued from a hoarder. ( A hoarder is a person who has more animals than they have the ability to PROPERLY care for them ) This person was being evicted from her trailer and the town she lived in planned to destroy all the cats that remained there. We were able to save these. They have now been vetted, including neuter, and are sweet friendly boys. We don't know their dates of birth for sure -- they all appear to be full grown adults.

Princess
DSH NATALIE was born approx March 4, 2004. A new arrival in March 2008, she is skittish and remains so a year later.
TAYLOR has an issue with his back legs and tail-- the tail is bent funny and he looks like he's crouching a little when he walks. This may be due to a prior injury, possibly he was hit by car. BUT -- he has no problems running, jumping, etc.
SPECIAL SITUATION : In late April 2008, there was a terrible fire at the Peachtree Apartments in Norwich and all the residents lost their homes. 5 cats were found in the area by Norwich Animal control afterwards. 4 have now been adopted. CINDER is an adult male. He has had surgery for ear polyps and is now doing fine.
DSH dilute calico HAZEL was born on July 31, 2007. She is very sweet, active and playful, and loves to sleep in bed with her person.
GRACELYN is a quiet friendly DSH tortie born approx March 25, 2005. She had an eye ulcer as a kitten, it has healed but left her with a scar -- we think she has vision in that eye though, and it doesn't affect her at all. She's a doll, loves to cuddle.
PELE ( Pay-Lay ) is a female DSH tortie born approx March 25, 2005. She's a petite little thing and very friendly, but does not get along with dogs.
If you adopt a kitten at 8 weeks of age, he or she will have received a first distemper shot. At 12 weeks of age you will need to take your kitten to the vet to have a necessary second distemper shot and a rabies shot. Your kitten will grow very fast and will need to be spayed or neutered by 6 months of age. ( a 6 month old can become pregnant ) PLEASE be a responsible and caring pet owner and do not add to the outrageous and tragic problem of cat overpopulation.
Cinder is the last Peachtree Cat still with us.
SPECIAL NOTE FOR ADOPTERS : IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU TAKE THE TIME TO INTRODUCE YOUR NEW PET TO YOUR HOME PROPERLY. THE CAT WILL MOST LIKELY BE FRIGHTENED WHEN HE FIRST ARRIVES AT YOUR HOME, AND MAY BOLT FOR AN OPEN DOOR. SAD TO SAY, THIS HAS HAPPENED.
FOR THE FIRST DAYS, PLEASE KEEP YOUR NEW PET IN ONE ROOM, WITH A LITTERBOX, FOOD, WATER, BED, AND A CLOSED DOOR. GIVE HIM PLENTY OF GENTLE AFFECTION AND THE TIME HE NEEDS TO RELAX AND REALIZE THIS IS HIS NEW HOME. THEN SLOWLY ALLOW HIM TO EXPLORE THE OTHER ROOMS IN YOUR HOME, NEVER ALLOWING HIM NEAR A DOOR TO THE OUTSIDE. YOU MUST BE VIGILANT FOR THE FIRST DAYS/WEEKS, UNTIL HE HAS ADJUSTED AND FEELS SAFE IN YOUR HOME.

Very confused when she first arrived back at the shelter, she took time to adjust, but is a sweet friendly cat.
