HALO was born in August of 2002. She is shy but gets along well with the other cats.  She is a DSH all grey except for a white spot on her chest, with double front paws.
ISIS is a classically beautiful brown DSH female tabby with gorgeous green eyes, born in April of 2003. She has become much less skittish in her years with us. With time, in a home of her own, maybe she could relax and learn to trust completely.
GLENNIE is a DSH Grey and white female born in  2005.  She was rescued on December 11, 2005 from a rough life outside, with Yeller.  She has learned to trust us now, and has learned that a headrub is a good thing, and will even butt you for one now ! Glennie was adopted once but could not adjust to her new home. Kitty Harbor is the only home she's ever known.
EDDIE was an adult  stray when he came to us. He was probably born in 2004. He is shy and slowly learning to trust us, but gets along well with the other cats. He looks pretty relaxed in the photo on the right, though !  He recently ( Spring 2009 ) has decided that he likes to be pet, and we are giving him all the attention we can.
MIKA (pronounced "Meeka" ) is a roly-poly little sweetheart born in July of 1995.  She had lived in a one-pet home, and her owner was  heartbroken to have to give her up. Mika had trouble adjusting to being in the main room with all the other cats, and would much prefer a quieter home -- having 40-something roommates stressed her out very much. She needs a quiet one-cat home, no dogs.
Since early May 2006, Mika has been staying  in our office and is getting along fine.  She will let you pet her and loves all the extra treats she gets from MaryLou.
YELLER is a young DSH yellow tabby rescued from the streets of Mystic, and is probably Glennie's brother. He's still shy with people but gets along fine with other cats. We think he was born in May 2005.
With your new pet, you will receive a free 4 LB bag of Hill's Science Diet food . You will also receive information on how to get pet health insurance at a special rate : click on  petfirst.com/petfinder
TIMMY was born in 2003. He was rescued from death row in a New Jersey shelter in October 2004. He's never had a real home of his own. He's learned to enjoy uncaged life with other cats, but is still very shy with people.
PLEASE GO TO www.CATSCRATCHING.COM FOR IMPORTANT INFO BEFORE YOU ADOPT !

CASEY was born in November 2004.
CANDY was born in 2003. Both she and Casey were rescued from a shelter in New Jersey where they were on the list for euthanasia.
BELOW ARE OUR KITTENS ( UP TO ONE YEAR OF AGE )
" A black cat crossing your path is a sign that the animal is    GOING SOMEWHERE. "                                                                                  -- Groucho Marx
RAJA is a female DSH brown tabby born in approx 2003. She is quiet and shy and keeps to herself. She had a real home once -- who knows how she could blossom if she had one again.
KALI is a pretty DSH dilute calico born in 2003. She has spent most of her life in shelters. She's learned to trust people and is accepting of the attention and pets of our volunteers.
LAILA was born in January 2004. She was rescued from death row in another shelter. She is DSH, white with grey tabby. She is quiet but friendly, but lets you know when she's had enough pets with a gentle swat.
MIMI's owner passed away and she was given up to another shelter, where her time was running out. Her housemate was adopted, and Mimi came to us. She deserves a home too. She is DSH black with a little white at her throat, born in 2003.
VIVIAN and VELVET were born to a stray in June 2006 at the Plainfield dog track. They are still a bit shy but came a long way in their foster home. Now they are at Kitty Harbor. Given time to adjust to a new home, they could become great pets for the patient and understanding adopter, willing to give them their space for awhile. Velvet will come right up to you meowing for your attention, and we hope it's just a matter of time before he'll let you pet him.
Sisters DAMARIS and FELICITY were rescued from a horribly overcrowded indoor situation, where vet care was never given. They each had litters of kittens, now all adopted. The girls are now spayed and up to date on their shots, as all our cats are. They were probably born in October 2006.
None of our cats have been declawed, unless they had been declawed by a previous owner. Please go to catscratching.com to learn more about this procedure.

Please ask us to show you how to trim their claws yourself.
Eric and Ethan are friendly brothers, born September 11, 2006.

They are pettable, but a bit skittish and don't like to be picked up. We hope that with the continued attention of our volunteers they will relax, and find  homes where they can feel safe. A patient adopter who is willing to give them time is a must.

TOBY was born probably in 2005 or 2006. He was already neutered when he showed up and hung around in a backyard in Canterbury for several weeks -- so he was someone's pet once. He  was friendlier when he came in -- being with so many other cats seems to have made him more  cautious and skittish. He has beautiful coloring   -- his golden brown coat has some mackerel swirls in it.
Adults -- over one year of age
TRAVIS was rescued from a hoarder. ( A hoarder is a person who has more animals than he or she has the ability to PROPERLY care for them ).  This person was being evicted from her trailer and the town she lived in planned to destroy all the cats that remained there. We were able to save some.  All have been adopted now, except Travis.  We estimate his birthdate as March 2006.

DSH NATALIE was born approx March 4, 2004. A new arrival in March 2008, she is skittish and remains so a year later.
SPECIAL SITUATION  :  In late April 2008, there was a terrible fire at the Peachtree Apartments in Norwich and all the residents lost their homes. 5 cats were found in the area by Norwich Animal control afterwards.  4 have now been adopted. CINDER is an adult male. He is currently recovering from his second surgery for ear polyps ( December 19, 2009 ) is expected to be fine.
GRACELYN is a quiet friendly  DSH tortie born approx March 25, 2005. She had an eye ulcer as a kitten, it has healed but left her with a scar -- we think she has vision in that eye though, and it doesn't affect her at all. She's a lovebug, loves to cuddle.

If you adopt a kitten at 8 weeks of age, he or she will have received a first distemper shot. At 12 weeks of age you will need to take your kitten to the vet to have a necessary second distemper shot and a rabies shot. Your kitten will grow very fast and will need to be spayed or neutered by 6 months of age. ( a 6 month old can become pregnant ) PLEASE be a responsible and caring pet owner and do not add to the outrageous and tragic problem of cat overpopulation.
Cinder is the last Peachtree Cat still with us.
SPECIAL NOTE FOR ADOPTERS : IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU TAKE THE TIME TO INTRODUCE YOUR NEW PET TO YOUR HOME PROPERLY. THE CAT WILL MOST LIKELY BE FRIGHTENED WHEN HE FIRST ARRIVES AT YOUR HOME, AND MAY BOLT FOR AN OPEN DOOR.  SAD TO SAY,  THIS HAS HAPPENED.

FOR THE FIRST DAYS, PLEASE KEEP YOUR NEW PET IN ONE ROOM, WITH A LITTERBOX, FOOD, WATER, BED,  AND A CLOSED DOOR. GIVE HIM PLENTY OF GENTLE AFFECTION AND THE TIME HE NEEDS TO RELAX AND REALIZE THIS IS HIS NEW HOME. THEN SLOWLY ALLOW HIM TO EXPLORE THE OTHER ROOMS IN YOUR HOME, NEVER ALLOWING HIM NEAR A DOOR TO THE OUTSIDE. YOU MUST BE VIGILANT FOR THE FIRST DAYS/WEEKS, UNTIL HE HAS ADJUSTED AND FEELS SAFE IN YOUR HOME.
ABNER and ASA were rescued from a wooded area in Preston. Their date of birth is approx May 1, 2008  and they are  friendly males.
CHLOE is a sweetheart. She came to us with 4 kittens from the Lebanon Pound. She was born in September 2007.
CHARLIE, a DSH female brown tabby, was born in 2005 and was adopted from us as a kitten. She was a well-cared-for indoor cat, but had to be given up due to unfortunate family health issues. Very confused when she first arrived back at the shelter, she took time to adjust, but is a sweet friendly cat.
Cinder
BENJI is a DMH TUXEDO male who came to us when his owner became seriously ill.  He was born January 1, 2003. He is adjusting to shelter life, after a rocky start. We think he's going to do fine.

MANNY, birthdate February 12, 2007, also came from the Lebanon Pound. He was originally rescued in New York. Very friendly and active, he loves to come out of the main room and wander around the office.
AMBER is a rare cat  - most orange tabbies are male. She came to us from the Lebanon Pound when they decided to no longer house cats at their facility -- dogs only.
CHIEF and RILEY lost their home when their owners moved away. His birthdate is August 28, 2007. Chief may be one of the sons of either Damaris or Felicity.
DOB July 27, 2007
These kittens,  IFFY,  ISIDOR,  INKY, and IVY came from a feral mom and have been well socialized and are now very friendly.  They were in a foster home with teenage children and other cats.  They were born March 15, 2009.

Jerry and Jimmy are are a pair of now 8-month-old brothers . They have been in one of our foster homes since they were tiny babies. They are very friendly and would love to go home together, since they've been together all these months. They have just come to stay at the shelter from their foster home, which may be why Jerry looks a little freaked out.  It is a big adjustment, going from your own home and people to a big crowded shelter, with new and different people caring for you.

DIXIE was rescued in Hartford, scared and hiding under a bush. She is in a foster home where she has made strides getting used to other cats and people. She likes to be petted on her head.
Looks as though he's learned to relax a bit...
They were well-socialized in their foster home and are very friendly. They have all now been altered.

It's time for them to get out of the shelter and into permanent loving homes !
MAMA KITTY had 7 kittens ! ! Now she is spayed and ready for adoption. Born approx April 28, 2007, she also is friendly.

VIOLET was born in March 2007. She loves people.
PETUNIA, BIG TIGER, AND MR. JONES are littermates, born April 15, 2008. Their pregnant stray mom was taken in by a kind person, and the kittens were born indoors and raised for a year and a half  in this home. Unfortunate circumstances caused this home to be lost, so now they are with us, adjusting to shelter life and hoping for a real home once again.
BLAIR came in with a litter of kittens. She has now been spayed -- no more unwanted kittens.
MILLIE'S former owner became seriously ill and could no longer care for her.  Her birthdate is October 2008.

CUBBY is a one-year-old friendly female. She is DMH.
Calico DSH female DIXIE is friendly, but not a lap cat. She is a senior, who lost her longtime home. We hope she can adjust to shelter life.
MANDY'S owner became ill and sadly can no longer care for her. At 11 and a half years of age, imagine what this  poor girl must think , i.e.  " where the heck am I ? "  She formerly did live with 4 other cats, so at least she is able to get along with other cats. But, at her age, doesn't she deserve a permanent and quiet place to rest her head ?
TOBY formerly lived with Mandy, Cleo, and Noelle. When their owner became physically unable to care for them, they came to us.
CLEO is a very friendly girl, who formerly lived with MANDY, TOBY, PIXIE, and NOELLE. Their owner can no longer care for them due to illness.
