HALO was born in August of 2002. She is shy but gets along well with the other cats.  She is a DSH all grey except for a white spot on her chest, with double front paws.
ISIS is a classically beautiful brown DSH female tabby with gorgeous green eyes, born in April of 2003. She has become much less skittish in her years with us, and lets us pet her now. With time, in a home of her own, maybe she could relax and learn to trust completely.
GLENNIE is a DSH Grey and white female born in  2005.  She was rescued on December 11, 2005 in Mystic, along with Yeller, who is likely her brother.  She has learned to trust us now, and has learned that a headrub is a good thing, and will even butt you for one now !

Glennie was adopted once but could not adjust to her new home. Kitty Harbor is the only home she's ever known.
YELLER is a  DSH yellow tabby rescued from the streets of Mystic as a kitten, and is probably Glennie's brother. He's still shy with people but gets along fine with other cats. We think he was born in May 2005.
With your new pet, you will receive a free 4 LB bag of Hill's Science Diet food . You will also receive information on how to get pet health insurance at a special rate : click on  petfirst.com/petfinder

CANDY was born in 2003. She was rescued from a shelter in New Jersey where she was on the list for euthanasia. She is skittish.
BELOW ARE OUR KITTENS - UNDER ONE YEAR OF AGE
" A black cat crossing your path is a sign that the animal is    GOING SOMEWHERE. "                                                                                  -- Groucho Marx
RAJA is a female DSH brown tabby born in approx 2003. She is quiet and shy and keeps to herself. She had a real home once -- who knows how she could blossom if she had one again.
LAILA was born in January 2004. She was rescued from death row in another shelter. She is DSH, white with grey tabby. She is quiet but friendly, but lets you know when she's had enough pets with a gentle swat.
MIMI's owner passed away and she was given up to another shelter, where her time was running out. Her housemate was adopted, and Mimi came to us. She deserves a home too. She is DSH black with a little white at her throat, born in 2003.
VIVIAN and VELVET were born to a stray in June 2006 at the Plainfield dog track. They are still a bit shy but came a long way in their foster home. Now they are at Kitty Harbor. Given time to adjust to a new home, they could become great pets for the patient and understanding adopter, willing to give them their space for awhile.

Velvet became ill, had treatment at the vet, but  passed away in August 2011.
Sisters DAMARIS and FELICITY were rescued from a horribly overcrowded indoor situation, where vet care was never given. They each had litters of kittens, now all adopted. The girls are now spayed and up to date on their shots, as all our cats are. They were probably born in October 2006.
None of our cats have been declawed, unless they had been declawed by a previous owner. Please go to catscratching.com to learn more about this procedure.

Please ask us to show you how to trim their claws yourself.
Eric and Ethan are friendly brothers, born September 11, 2006.
Halo is on our Special Needs page for sponsoring
They are pettable, but a bit skittish and don't like to be picked up. We hope that with the continued attention of our volunteers they will relax, and find  homes where they can feel safe. A patient adopter who is willing to give them time is a must.
Adults -- over one year of age
TRAVIS was rescued from a hoarder. ( A hoarder is a person who has more animals than he or she has the ability to PROPERLY care for them ).  This person was being evicted from her trailer and the town she lived in planned to destroy all the cats that remained there. We were able to save some.  All have been adopted now, except Travis.  We estimate his birthdate as March 2006.
Yeller is on our Special Needs page for sponsoring

TJ is a big DLH male  --- he's a love with people but had some difficulty adjusting to living with so many other cats. He really needs a home of his own. His birthdate is approx December 2005.

If you adopt a kitten at 8 weeks of age, he or she will have received a first distemper shot. At 12 weeks of age you will need to take your kitten to the vet to have a necessary second distemper shot and a rabies shot. Your kitten will grow very fast and will need to be spayed or neutered by 6 months of age. ( a 6 month old can become pregnant ) PLEASE be a responsible and caring pet owner and do not add to the outrageous and tragic problem of cat overpopulation.
SPECIAL NOTE FOR ADOPTERS : IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU TAKE THE TIME TO INTRODUCE YOUR NEW PET TO YOUR HOME PROPERLY. THE CAT WILL MOST LIKELY BE FRIGHTENED WHEN HE FIRST ARRIVES AT YOUR HOME, AND MAY BOLT FOR AN OPEN DOOR.  SAD TO SAY,  THIS HAS HAPPENED.

FOR THE FIRST DAYS, PLEASE KEEP YOUR NEW PET IN ONE ROOM, WITH A LITTERBOX, FOOD, WATER, BED,  AND A CLOSED DOOR.  GIVE HIM PLENTY OF GENTLE AFFECTION AND THE TIME HE NEEDS TO RELAX AND REALIZE THIS IS HIS NEW HOME. THEN SLOWLY ALLOW HIM TO EXPLORE THE OTHER ROOMS IN YOUR HOME, NEVER ALLOWING HIM NEAR A DOOR TO THE OUTSIDE. YOU MUST BE VIGILANT FOR THE FIRST DAYS/WEEKS, UNTIL HE HAS ADJUSTED AND FEELS SAFE IN YOUR HOME.
ABNER was rescued from a wooded area in Preston. His date of birth is approx May 1, 2008 and he is   friendly.
CHARLIE, a DSH female brown tabby, was born in 2005 and was adopted from us as a kitten. She was a well-cared-for indoor cat, but had to be given up due to unfortunate family health issues. Very confused when she first arrived back at the shelter, she took time to adjust, but is a sweet friendly cat.
BAILEY ( formerly known as Whoopie ) is a DLH female.  She was rescued from a campground. Her birthdate is estimated as January 2008. Poor Bailey is still very afraid of people.

JERRY and JIMMY are a pair of brothers born April 9, 2009.  They have been in one of our foster homes since they were tiny babies. They are very friendly and would love to go home together, since they've been together all these months. At the time Jerry's picture was taken, they had just come to stay at the shelter, which may be why he looks a little freaked out.  They're doing fine now.

JIMMY HAS BEEN ADOPTED
PETUNIA, BIG TIGER, AND MR. JONES are littermates, born April 15, 2008. Their pregnant stray mom was taken in by a kind person, and the kittens were born indoors and raised for a year and a half  in this home. Unfortunate circumstances caused this home to be lost, so now they are with us, adjusting to shelter life and hoping for a real home once again.
WEMBLEY's owner left her behind when he moved to Boston. His family says they cannot keep her due to allergies - so here she is with us. She was born in May 2007. She is friendly with people and doesn't seem to mind other cats.
DINAH  was declawed prior to being surrendered to Kitty Harbor. Her date of birth is January 5, 2003. She was an only cat in a home for 8 years, and loves people and to be petted, but is not fond of other cats. She would do best as an only cat.
BILLY AND BUZZY are brothers. They were adopted from us as youngsters, but now have lost their home and come back . They are a little skittish.
INKY was born in March 2009.  He is also known as STRING BEAN because of his loooong legs.
DONNA was living outside of the McDonald's in Gales Ferry before she was rescued, pregnant. Her babies have been adopted. She is sweet but shy. When she was in a cage with her babies, she liked to be petted. Now that she is in the main room with a lot of friendlier cats, she tends to be overlooked. However, she loves treats, and an adopter with patience, TLC, and LOTS of yummy treats may be able to win her over. Her birthdate is estimated as April 2009.
LITTLE HONEY is female, and her DOB is June 2007.
PEPPERMINT is a DLH female born in June 2008. She is very friendly. She needs an adopter with the patience to teach her not to scratch furniture, but to use a scratching post, instead. Please click on our  "help/advice" tab for lots of helpful information regarding behavior issues such as scratching.
PETE's date of birth is approx October 2008. He is a friendly cat, but had been abused before coming to the shelter, and the result is that he doesn't react well to loud voices or sudden movements, and may act out. A quiet home would be best for him.
ELPHIE came to us from the Norwich Veterinary Hospital. She has decided she likes people but does not love other cats, at least not in a shelter environment.
ANNIE  was born 8/24/03. She had a home until her elderly owner went into a nursing home. She was well taken care of and is very nice cat.
TYLER Is a very friendly boy, born approx September 2008. He was left on our doorstep in a dog crate with several other cats, who've all been adopted. He loves to be petted, and if you do, he'll follow you around for more.
BAXTER is a bob-tailed female.  She was rescued in North Stonington. She is very sweet, mild-mannered and quiet, and gets along well with other cats at the shelter. Her DOB is approx August 2008.
Gypsy      dob 2/23/10
Petunia
DLH all-black ISABEL was born in January 2007.  She is very calm and gets along with everyone.
GYPSY and GRETTA are two of a litter of six, and have been in shelter care almost since they born.  The others have been adopted.  These two are friendly and deserving of homes as well.
Scamper
SCAMPER is a young male. He was born in  September 2007. He formerly had a home with an elderly person but lost it, and he's trying to adjust to shelter life. He is very vocal, a talker.
GIGI was rescued in Norwich, never had a home . She seems sweet but can be a little feisty/aggressive at times. She is  adjusting to life with constant contact with humans, and we hope she will learn to trust.  Her DOB is estimated as October 2009.
TILLIE is a very petite DSH dilute calico born approx June 2009. She came in pregnant and had SEVEN kittens in her foster home. She is now spayed and ready for adoption.
She gets along ok with other cats, would probably do best in a home with just one or two other cats. She needs a bit space for herself !
FERA would need a patient adopter - she is skittish. She allows herself to be pet for just  a minute or so. We are hoping she learns to trust us, and finds the right home.
GiGi
Pete
Sarah
SARAH's Date of birth is March 2008. She came to us from the Norwich Vet Hospital. She had always been an inside cat and lost her home when her owner passed away. She is adjusting to shelter life, is not too happy with people or other cats right now.
Raja
GINGER is a DSH tortie born March 5, 2010. She is the sweetest cat and gets along with everyone.
Ginger
JAWS , a DSH tuxedo male, is a new arrival in May 2011 and is very scared at this time. He was born June 16, 2010.
Soot
CeCe
CECE is a loving friendly kitty but would need a patient adopter - one adoption didn't work out because she hid all the time. She needs a quiet home, preferably with no young kids  or other animals.
DLH Ember is female and her birthdate is May 2008. She is a friendly cat.
We are not exactly sure where SOOT came from - long story. She is now spayed and up to date on shots. The pink spot that looks like her tongue is not - it's actually a dash of pink on her chin. She is friendly.
Ember
Apparently MAXWELL , a DMH male, was living outside a senior center when he was rescued and brought to Kitty Harbor. His birthdate Is approx May 2009.
BonJovi
Connor
Murphy
BONJOVI is female and came to us with one kitten, who has now been adopted. She is estimated to be between one and two years of age. She is adjusting to being around so many other cats and people.
CONNOR is very friendly and loves to be petted. He is about two years of age.
Gretta
MURPHY is about 2 years old, and is friendly.
These 2 sisters. ISABELLE and ROXY, took some time to adjust but now are sweet, people-loving and attention-craving. They were nick-named the Crabitz sisters because they were cranky when they first came in. They were born 7-14-05.

Roxy crossed the Rainbow Bridge In November 2011. Her illness was likely stress-related : some cats have a very difficult time in a shelter. So far, Isabelle is doing ok.
Cecily
CECILY's own kittens were taken from her by another "rescue group" but she was left behind. She came to us, and just in time : we had motherless kittens for her to adopt as her own, and she did a wonderful job.
She needs to be an only cat, however. For whatever reason, she does not get along with other adult cats.
Tillie

Whaley
WHALEY is a DMH female, and was a very young mom. She's now spayed and ready to go home. She has a little kink in her tail - anyone's guess as to how it got there. She was born approx July 2010.
BELLE is a young mother rescued from a barn. She is petite and a little shy, but loves to be petted, if you approach her calmly.
Nicky                                                                                                   Taz
NICKY and TAZ are young brothers. They arrived in the summer of 2011. After some adjustment, they are doing fine. They are friendly and love each very much - we'd like to find a home for them together.
Dinah
Teddy
Maxwell
Mandy
This is VIOLET, a DSH female tortoiseshell. She is about 6 months old but she is very tiny - only weighs about 3 1/2 lbs. Some kids found her in the woods and brought her home, but mom and dad said she could not stay. So, now she is with us.  She has come a long way, but still does not like to be picked up. She is already spayed and up to date on all shots. She is a Big Little love.

Violet
Master Luke is just gorgeous. He is such a good boy and very sweet. DOB is approx 12-20-09. He was a stray taken in by a vet, but  he must have been someone’s kitty, because he is so friendly and seems fine with other cats.

Pretty little brown tabby EXPRESSO is estimated to be about a year old. She is friendly and seems to get along with the other cats. Next to nothing is known about her background - long story.
